The Glass
Purpose "The Glass" is a skit about where we are in our christian walks. Are we christians who view life negatively, positively? Are we christians who are satisfied with the gifts God has given us? Do we think we could do a better job at life than having God's directions? Are we ready to accept his calling? Are we ready to drink of His eternal fountain and have our cups filled with His awesome love?
Preparation Facing the audience is the table, covered with the table cloth. On top of the table sits the see-through glass half-filled with water. Beneath the table lies a large pitcher of water with either the word, "GOLD" written on it or the pitcher itself is glamorous-looking. I find the word, "GOLD" to hit home better with the audience. Also beneath the table is a VERY large glass. The thimbol is carried in the pocket of one of the actors.
Skit Walking from one side of the room to the other, one at a time, the actors walk up to the table and stop in front of the glass. Person One: "Man, this glass is half-full! I must be doing something really right! Look everyone! I'm right! God has a special place stored up and it's all mine!" Person One walks away. Person Two walks up. Person Two: "You've got to be kidding me! After all I've done for you?! I give everything I have! I do everything right! Why is this glass only half-empty?" Person Two walks away. Person Three walks up. Person Three: "WOW! This glass is Wayyyyyy too small! Here, God, use this one instead! (pulls the VERY large glass from beneath the table, shows it to the audience and takes it with him when he leaves) Person Three walks away. Person Four walks up. Person Four: Doesn't touch the glass, but makes a big scene looking at the glass. (candidly) "Woohoo!! Hey everyone, there's a glass here! Alright! A glass! Yeah, I've got a glass! Um, yeah, a glass. OK." Person Four walks away. Person Five walks up. Person Five: "Yikes, man this glass is wayyyyy too big! (pulls the thimbol out of his/her pocket) Here, God, use this one." Person Five walks away. Person Six walks up. Person Six: "Hey, God, let me help you out... I'm here for you! Here, let me fill this up for you." (takes out the pitcher of water and fills up the rest of the glass). Person Six walks away. Person Seven walks up. Person Seven: "Hey, man, where's my cupholder?" Person Seven walks away. Person Eight walks up. Person Eight: (looks at the glass, then at the audience, back at the glass then up to Heaven) "Now this is an opportunity! (takes the glass and drinks the water, then holds the empty glass up in the air, as if to be filled by God) Fill my cup, Oh Lord!" The End |
