Purpose

This skit is quite a powerful skit.  It relays to the audience the reality of the purity of our Lord and Savior, Jesus in contrast to our sins, and the ultimate price he paid - that we were the ones who nailed him on the cross.

Preparation

It is good to be prepared ahead of time for this one.  You can use an "unsuspecting victim" from the audience.  If this skit is being given at a youth conference, it could be fun to call up the speaker and/or others to participate in the skit.

It works basically like "The Price is Right."  For example, the announcer would say, "Sunnydale Hyde, come on down!"  And I would come down to the front, acting all excited to "finally" be on the gameshow.

You will also need to have someone prepared to turn out the lights toward the end of the skit.

As far as someone holding up the signs, it is a good idea to "practice" with the audience on their response to a particular sign being held up before the skit begins.

Skit

The announcer calls people out from the audience.  As each new contestant's name is called, the one holding up the signs holds up the "Cheer" sign.  Each one called is ecstatic about being on the game show.

Then, one-by-one, the announcer/gameshow host asks the contestants about a particular sin.

Example:  Announcer:  "Now, Sunnydale, fine strapling young man as you are, have you ever cheated on a test?"

I would reply with a scorlorn look, "Yes."

The one holding up the signs holds up the "Boo" sign.

The announcer would then say in a home umpire kind of way, "YOU'RE OUTA HERE!"

I then walk off the stage, lowering my head because I just lost the show.

One-by-one, each contestant is asked a specific sin, all saying yes (with the exeption of the sin of lying, that one would say, "no" and automatically be kicked off the show for lying).  And each time a contestant is kicked off the show, the "Boo" sign is held up.

After all but the last contestant have been asked their question and have been kicked off the show the announcer asks the last contestant his question.

The last contestant is Jesus.

The announcer asks Jesus about several different sins. Jesus says, "No" to every question.

The announcer says,"Jesus you are spotless!  You're the grand prize winner!  HERE'S YOUR REWARD!!!

The sign, "Standing Ovation" is held up.

As the crowd is cheering for the winner, a change in pace is set on stage:  A few of those who had been kicked off the show run out and "beat up" Jesus and nail him to the cross, which has been hidden out of view until now.

The lights go out.

All the contestants who were kicked off the show because of their sins quickly gather around the foot of the cross and shine their flash lights on the cross.

They then sing the song, "Amazing Grace" is.

Naturally, the audience will join in the singing.

The End.
